Envision Research - Workshops For Consumers

Finding and Using Health Info on the Web (1-2 hours)

This is a basic workshop covering the best Web sites to use for consumer health information. The workshop can be conducted as a hands-on computer course if facilities allow, or as a demonstration course with a sole Internet connection. Topics include top-rated sites; types of information available; sites for specific groups such as seniors, low literacy consumers, and children; and evaluation criteria for unfamiliar sites. Learners should have basic browser and Web searching skills.

 Introduction to PubMed (1.5-4 hours)

Designed for advanced Web searchers and those with an interest in the professional literature of health and medicine, Introduction to PubMed demonstrates the free, Web-based front end to the National Library of Medicine’s MEDLINE database. The workshop covers basic and advanced search features, clinical tools, and search results. This workshop is best offered as a hands-on workshop, with no more than two participants per computer.
