Welcome to my portfolio!A little bit about me...Educational Technology snuck up on me. After receiving my Master of Library Science (MLS) in 1993, I worked my way through several jobs in special libraries: the corporate library of a public utility; a law library attached to a corporate legal department; a medical library at a community hospital. In every case, I attended a variety of workshops and seminars to help me learn about resources and services in each environment. I learned that librarians are incredibly smart people with lots of great information to share. But I also learned that library-related CE workshops can be horrible. Being smart and knowing a lot about your discipline seemingly aren’t related to knowing how to teach someone else about that discipline. Librarians also fall prey to the “wow” factor of new technologies without careful and thoughtful examination of their true educational value. So in 2004, I decided to educate myself and signed up for EDTEC 540. I spent a number of months researching distance programs in instructional design and technology and SDSU was where I landed. And after 4 weeks in Jim Marshall’s summer class, I was hooked. I wanted to learn as much as I could about designing and developing pedagogically sound instruction – regardless of medium – and then share that knowledge with my librarian colleagues. Here we are…almost seven long years later…and I remain just as excited about sharing my growing knowledge with colleagues both within and outside of librarianship. Regardless of where I end up professionally, I hope to remain an evangelist for good instructional design in all fields and for all people.
